Satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) technology represents a disruptive shift in the satellite communications landscape, enabling satellites to connect directly with standard consumer devices, such as smartphones.

This shift is tied to a number of interconnected dynamics, spanning from technology challenges to spectrum and standards, lying at the intersection of satellite services and mobile connectivity. In this document we aim at offering a comprehensive overview of satellite D2D communications, looking at the technology, market dynamics, and ecosystem shifts. Our objective is to deliver a clear, structured, and digestible perspective, leveraging our Global Space Practice and TMT Practice, that can be useful to both experienced professionals and newly interested in this satellite service application, and of course we remain available for contacts and queries.
